[SYS_INIT] Synchronizing orbital satellite stream...
Select sector to initialize satellite trace.
No observer location set.
Fewer layers keeps the globe readable and runs faster on older laptops and phones. Extra target details adds orbit elements, IDs, illumination and coverage to the info panel.
S.H.E.R.M.A.N is a browser-based satellite tracking console. It plots hundreds of tracked objects on a live 3D globe: NASA science missions and the ISS, the SpaceX Starlink and Dragon fleet, other active payloads, and debris from three well-known break-ups (the 2007 Fengyun-1C anti-satellite test and the 2009 collision between Cosmos 2251 and Iridium 33).
Orbital elements come from the public General Perturbations catalogue on Space-Track.org. A GitHub Action runs sherman_fetch.py every 4 hours and commits a fresh snapshot.json. Your browser then works out every position itself with the SGP4 model (satellite.js), so the globe keeps moving even if the connection drops. If the snapshot can't load, a simulation of ten demo orbits runs instead and the panel says so.
